BANKING AND FINANCE I

Course Number: 492090

Banking & Finance I is a year-long Career & Technical Education (CTE) course that introduces students to the fundamentals of personal finance, banking systems, and the broader economic forces that shape financial decision-making. Students explore the history and purpose of the U.S. banking system, the role of the Federal Reserve, and how financial institutions support individuals, businesses, and the economy.

Throughout the course, students develop practical skills in budgeting, credit management, risk management, banking services, and cash handling. They analyze real-world financial scenarios, evaluate the costs and benefits of financial decisions, interpret economic indicators, and examine how markets and government policies influence economic outcomes. Emphasis is placed on responsible financial behavior, consumer protection, and ethical practices in the banking and finance sector.

By the end of the course, students progress from understanding money as consumers to applying financial knowledge as emerging professionals. Banking & Finance I prepares students for future coursework in the Financial Services pathway, workplace readiness credentials such as WorkKeys, and informed participation in today’s financial system.
