CRIMINAL JUSTICE I

Course Number: 494600

Criminal Justice I builds on what you learned in Introduction to Criminal Justice by focusing on how law enforcement officers do their jobs in real-life situations. You will explore the tools and equipment officers use, learn proper safety procedures, and practice skills like communication, report writing, and handling different types of incidents. You’ll also study how officers make decisions, including when and how force can be used, and how laws like the 4th Amendment protect people during searches and arrests.

Throughout the course, you’ll investigate crime scenes, traffic stops, and emergency situations while learning how officers respond to high-risk events. You’ll also examine important topics like drug awareness, first aid, and how law enforcement works with diverse communities. In addition, you’ll explore how the juvenile justice system works and how it differs from the adult system. By the end of the course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the skills, responsibilities, and challenges faced by law enforcement professionals.
