SCIENCE GRADE 6
Course Number: 366210
Grade 6 Science is an integrated science course that addresses the following domains: Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth and Space Science, and Engineering, Technology, and Applications of Science. The physical science performance expectations address the concept of energy. Students will learn how energy can be transferred from one object or system to another. Students will develop an understanding of energy and energy transfer. The life science performance expectations will help students discover how the structures of living organisms relate to their function. They will explore how cells contribute to the function of living things and how living things grow, develop, and reproduce. Students will develop an understanding of structure, function, and information processing, along with growth, development, and reproduction. The Earth and Space Sciences performance expectations will address how energy and water resources impact Earth’s systems. Students will also explore weather and climate, as well as the impact that human activities have on the planet. Throughout the course, students will engage in the engineering design process. By the end of grade 6, students should be able to define problems precisely, conduct a more thorough process for choosing the best solution, and optimize a final design. Students will develop and apply these skills in the various disciplines of science
